چکیده
Domain-Specific hypothesis, they seem at least as problematic for this theory as do many of the facts raised by Caramazza and Mahon for alternative accounts. However, the model is so underspecified that it is possible to develop explanations for most patterns of data. This flexibility significantly undermines the explanatory power of the account and essentially renders it unfalsifiable. The challenge for Caramazza and Mahon, therefore, is to specify what would count as evidence inconsistent with their hypothesis. More generally, we suggest that it is unlikely that any one of the existing theories (including our own) can accommodate all the ‘facts’, and that a more promising approach would be to develop integrative theories that combine insights from several different accounts (e.g. [10]).

vs. Concrete Words The vulnerability of abstract words to brain damage has long been noted in the neuropsychological literature. Abstract words, such as charity, belief, hope, are those whose referents cannot be perceived through thesenses—unlike concrete words, such as skip, finger, shoe. متن کاملClarifying the nature of the distinctiveness by domain interaction in conceptual structure: comment on Cree, McNorgan, and McRae (2006).
The conceptual structure account of semantic memory (CSA; L. K. Tyler & H. E. Moss, 2001) claims that feature correlation (the degree to which features co-occur) and feature distinctiveness (the number of concepts in which a feature occurs) interact with domains of knowledge (e.g., living vs. nonliving) such that the distinctive features of nonliving things are more highly correlated than the d...
متن کاملThe Tyler Rationale and plagiarism: A comparative Analysis of Rational book and it's revision
»Basic principles of curriculum and instruction« book by Ralph Tyler is the most challengeable work in the field of curriculum that has been criticized with various groups. Some of them believe it is a plagiarism and others view it’s questions as a basic for curriculum engineering. Exploring divers ideas toward the Rational and reappraise by comparing it and it's revision are two main purposes ...
متن کاملThe Emergence of Semantic Categories from Distributed Featural Representations
This paper presents a computational model of semantic memory, trained with behaviourally inspired vectors. The results are consistent with the conceptual structure account (Tyler, Moss, Durrant-Peatfield & Levy, 2000), which claims that concepts can be understood, and the effects of random damage predicted, based on (i) the number of correlations its features make, and (ii) the distinctiveness ...
